ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Shreveport resident rescued three family members from a burning home on Sunday near E. Topeka Street when flames engulfed the one-story wood building—he was treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Anil Cacodcar—a Louisiana native studying at Harvard—was named a 2025 Rhodes Scholar, becoming the first from the state in 10 years. The award gives him two years of fully funded study at Oxford where he will examine the U.S. healthcare system and later pursue a medical career back in Louisiana.  KTBS
  • Local injury law firm Rice and Kendig provided legal guidance on elderly driver laws and car crashes on KPXJ CW 21 at 3 p.m. every Monday—this week, KTBS interviewed attorney William Kendig to detail how these laws impact seniors and road safety.  KTBS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lydia Rachal’s fundraising drive exceeded its goal after communities and two foundations raised $5.45 million for lifesaving treatment for her rare condition — production is scheduled for January with further planning meetings set to follow.  KTBS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Louisiana Tech clinched its first winning season since 2019 as Andrew Burnette’s 98‐yard touchdown run gave the Bulldogs an early lead in a cold, rainy game at Missouri State. Trey Kukuk and Burnette combined for 304 rushing yards and five touchdowns while a late interception by Jakari Foster sealed the win.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Southern upset Grambling 28-27 at the Bayou Classic on Saturday when captain Ckelby Givens recovered a fumble with 32 seconds left—giving the Jaguars their first Southwestern Athletic Conference win. Grambling had missed two field goals near the end as they fell to a narrow loss.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Coach John Sella said the Flyers lost Friday's quarterfinal game when starting quarterback Bryce Restovich, who led the state in touchdown passes, was diagnosed with mono and did not play. Substitutes Carson Ward and Ty Walsworth took the field at Messmer Stadium — and the loss continued a string of playoff setbacks for Loyola.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Calvary Cavaliers upset unbeaten Jewel Sumner 14–7 in the Select Division III quarterfinals last Friday on the road — their defense stopped key drives and they will face second-seeded Notre Dame of Crowley Friday night in the state semifinals.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • On Friday night, Ouachita defeated Parkway 28—22 in the state quarterfinal at Preston Crownover Stadium as the Lions ran out the final 279 seconds on 11 plays with two penalties granting first downs; Parkway’s season ended after it failed to stop the drive in the final 4:39.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Evangel Christian Academy players earned top awards on the District 1-5A All-District football team when quarterback Peyton Houston was named Offensive MVP—he threw for 3,836 yards and 42 touchdowns—and defensive end Ashton Dawson was named Defensive MVP after making 97 tackles and five sacks on Dec. 1. The Eagles advanced to the LHSAA quarterfinals, showing a strong season performance ahead of LSU commitments.  Shreveport Times
  • Calvary Baptist dominated the 2025 District IV All-District volleyball team with 10 selections (including MVP Brooklyn Morris who helped her Lady Cavaliers post a 19-17 record and reach a second-round state playoff) while players from Loyola, North Caddo and Evangel also earned spots.  Shreveport Times
