- ➤ The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office launched the 14th Annual Clean Out Your Closet for Christmas project to support local families this holiday season. Donors can drop off gently used clothing and new hygiene items at Sheriff’s Safety Town on 8910 Jewella Ave by Dec. 19—items will be given to the Salvation Army and Providence House. - ➤ Linda Michele Requard Hatcher, a devoted teacher and minister who wrote and served her church in Shreveport, passed away November 24th and is remembered for her lifelong dedication to family and faith—funeral services are scheduled for December 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Osborn Funeral Home and will continue with a graveside service at Forest Park Cemetery and a luncheon at Life Tabernacle. - ➤ Aniyah Brown, a 20-year-old firefighter who has served three years with the Shreveport Fire Department, was named 2025 Firefighter of the Year for Louisiana, Mississippi, and western Tennessee by the Kiwanis Club. She continues to serve the community—teaching local youth and serving on the department’s honor guard while setting an example of hard work and humility. Shreveport Bossier Journal

- ➤ Lafayette native Anil Cacodcar became Louisiana's first Rhodes scholar in a decade when he earned the award on Dec 1—his achievement marks a rare milestone for the Pelican State. The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
- ➤ Southern University at Shreveport’s Martin Luther King Jr. campus remained closed Tuesday because of ongoing water issues, so some classes moved online while others continued in person and essential workers reported to campus. KTBS

- ➤ Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser designated British TikTok duo Josh and Jase as Louisiana Ambassadors after their tour of the state—he sent them a letter inviting them to join Mardi Gras parades in February if they visit, noting that their role aims to promote Louisiana's culture on social media. - ➤ Shreveport children will join holiday events at Safety Town, 8910 Jewella Ave, where the Caddo Sheriff's Office will hold a Letters to Santa session on Dec 7 from 2 until 4 p.m. They will also enjoy a showing of How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Dec 12 at 6 p.m. and a dinner with pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage on Dec 20 at 6 p.m.—families are encouraged to wear festive clothing and take photos with Santa. - ➤ Officials in Caddo Parish may soon launch a national advertising campaign to attract remote workers and new families with up to $40,000 in digital marketing aimed at boosting the local tax base—proposal introduced during Monday's commission work session. Commissioner John Paul Young said the plan includes social media outreach and a nationally syndicated program hosted by actor Dennis Quaid. KTBS

- ➤ LSU Shreveport announced it will launch a varsity women’s volleyball program that will begin competition in Fall 2026. - ➤ Evangel’s junior quarterback Pop Houston led the team to an unbeaten District 1-5A season and was named offensive MVP—senior defensive tackle Ashton Dawson earned defensive MVP when coaches selected the all-district team on Monday. - ➤ Local prep soccer teams played few games last week because of bad weather and the holiday, with the Bossier Bearkats earning a 3-0 win and the Benton girls also scoring a win. Tonight, the Bearkats will meet the Benton Tigers at 5:30 — a feature game before they head to the Hannan tournament to face top Division I teams — as local fans watch closely.
