  • Terry Slack, a longtime leader with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, shared his journey of faith and personal hardship at Sky Grill near downtown today, explaining how he now inspires local youth through weekly school visits (emphasizing the importance of finding purpose).  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • The African American Parade Celebration Committee will host its annual Toy Drive and Giveaway on Dec. 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Airport Park (6500 Kennedy Dr), accepting donation of new, unwrapped toys to bring holiday cheer to local children.  KTBS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • SLB is expanding its Shreveport facility at 7600 Antoine Blvd with a $30 million investment that will double the plant's footprint and add 600 direct jobs (additional indirect roles could boost regional opportunities) starting January. The expansion will strengthen local manufacturing capacity as demand grows.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Donnie Bickham Middle School of Shreveport won first place in NSU’s 11th Annual Robotics Competition where 52 students from six schools competed. The school’s STEM teacher received a Teacher Award for his dedication to hands-on learning.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Centenary College marks 15 years of Le Quartier Français (LQF) by unveiling new student-painted murals in the James Hall lobby on Dec. 4 at 6:15 p.m.; the celebration highlights French immersion and campus community during the college’s bicentennial year.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana’s health department announced it will not renew its UnitedHealthcare Medicaid contract covering 345,000 members, with transitions set to begin on Jan. 1, 2026. The agency renewed its Aetna contract on Dec. 9 (without providing a reason) as it adjusts its Medicaid plans.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Gov. Jeff Landry's team abruptly canceled 2026 Medicaid contract extensions with Aetna Better Health and UnitedHealthCare, affecting 488,500 enrollees who will be moved to other plans before year's end—patients can switch within 90 days starting Jan. 1.  KTBS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bossier Parish CC will face Panola College tonight in Carthage as they try to extend their Region XIV record, while Centenary hosts a non-conference doubleheader at 5 p.m. in Marshall. LSUS teams remain unbeaten in conference play, and standout players earned conference awards last week.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Benton Tigers tied with Bossier Bearkats last Tuesday, boosting their standing despite a 2-0 loss to West Monroe Monday. They will compete at the Bossier Tournament at Tinsley Park this weekend against Ouachita Parish, Central Lafourche, and Minden.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
