COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Holy Angels gift shop in south Shreveport now offers new holiday take-and-bake meals, homemade cookies, and creative gifts by residents, with items available starting Dec. 8 and cookie orders accepted until Dec. 22; proceeds support Angelworks (a program helping residents gain independence).  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • District Attorney James Stewart continues his annual holiday tradition by distributing 247 bicycles to students at Walnut Hill Elementary and JS Clark Elementary on Monday, Dec. 15 (157 bikes at 8:30 a.m. and 90 bikes at 1:30 p.m.).  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Betty and Leonard Phillips Deaf Action Center will host its Las Vegas Night fundraiser on Dec. 13 at Petroleum Club - featuring auctions including a Taylor Swift-signed guitar and a private jet trip to fund programs for 18,000 deaf, deaf/blind, and hard-of-hearing people. BUSINESS NEWS

  • SLB announced it will invest $30 million to expand its operations in Caddo Parish by doubling its facility at the Shreveport technology center (7600 Antoine Blvd). Work will begin in January 2026 and is expected to create over 600 new jobs.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Louisiana dropped Medicaid contract extensions for Aetna Better Health of Louisiana and United Healthcare of Louisiana effective January 1, 2026 — the state notified both providers on Monday that their contracts would not be renewed.  KSLA
  • Local officials—Commissioners Greg Young, Stormy Gage-Watts and Councilwoman Ursula Bowman—visited a data center in Virginia to explore a future facility for the city. The police department is moving into a new headquarters after years in its old historic building.  KSLA
  • The Shreveport Fire Department closed Station 4 for needed renovations at 2200 Milan Street. Fire crews were moved to nearby Stations 1 and 8 to keep services strong, and the station will reopen by summer 2026.  KTBS

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Stanley Hoang at Ochsner LSU Health performed the world’s first awake dual approach spinal fusion surgery, cutting a 6-hour procedure to 3 hours for a patient unable to have general anesthesia; his method published in the Journal of Neurosurgery earned praise at the Virtual Global Spine Conference.  KSLA

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Dan Gill, a retired LSU AgCenter horticulture specialist, advises local gardeners to prepare for chillier weather by covering tropical plants, storing seeds in the refrigerator, cleaning tools, reusing fallen leaves, weeding regularly, and planting chilled spring bulbs in groups.   • Calvary's boys outscored Parkway 87 to 73 and Booker T. Washington beat Northwood 61 to 57 on Tuesday, Dec. 9 in week 4 prep basketball games. The scores mark an active night in high school sports.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
  • Centenary Gents coach J.A. Anglin, a Shreveport native, earned his first NCAA coaching victory Tuesday night in Marshall, Texas when senior guard Craig Collier hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 15 seconds left to secure a 64-62 win over East Texas Baptist.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • Calvary will face Dunham and top recruit Elijah Haven in the LHSAA Select Division III championship game at the Superdome today at 7 p.m.—the contest comes after an early setback and a strong season turnaround by a mostly inexperienced team.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate
