COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Caddo Parish officials presented toys to U.S. Marines yesterday (Dec. 12) at Walter B. Jacobs Nature Center as part of the 24th annual Toys for Tots campaign, collecting gifts to brighten the holiday season for children in need.  KSLA
  • Families Helping Families will host its Christmas program to assist families with disabilities at the Bossier Civic Center, providing vital support for local households. More event details are expected to be announced soon.  KSLA

CULTURE NEWS

  • High Gravity Glassworks is hosting a two-hour holiday glassblowing workshop at its Shreveport studio, where groups of up to five people will start with a 20-minute introduction before each participant creates a unique keepsake.  KTBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Durham Trucking is offering free truck driving classes for at-risk youth using a $90,000 grant — applicants aged 18 to 27 must submit a video to secure one of 12 available spots starting in January.  KSLA
  • On Friday morning, three Caddo Parish school principals were honored by the school board in a ceremony at their schools for the 2025–2026 school year (Courtney LeBlanc, Felicia O’Neal, Shannon Wall) for their leadership.  KTBS
  • BOM Bank is supporting Kingston Elementary School’s CubAThon fundraiser by donating funds for sound equipment, new recess gear plus incentives for students, teachers and staff training. The donation will boost school assemblies and performance events.  Shreveport Bossier Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A report by the Environmental Integrity Group found Louisiana's DEQ cut nearly a quarter of its staff and reduced funding 26% over 15 years — among the largest declines for state pollution regulators nationwide. The report warns that these cuts could strain enforcement amid growing industrial expansion.  The Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheriff Henry Whitehorn released advice to help residents prepare for a freezing weekend blast. He listed warming centers at Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission (901 McNeil St), Hope Connections (2350 Levy St) and The Highland Center (9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) along with indoor heating and pet safety tips.  KSLA
  • Greenwood Baptist Church held a meeting on Dec. 11 to share details about a proposed data center in west Shreveport and gather community input. The city council will vote on the project on Dec. 18.  KSLA

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Thursday’s state championship, Dunham defeated Calvary 34 to 17 as Dunham’s quarterback Elijah Haven recorded 407 total yards and five touchdowns — ending Calvary’s 12-game winning streak as the offense struggled.  Shreveport Bossier Journal
  • LSUS men's basketball overcame a five-point halftime deficit to secure a 98-90 doubleheader win at LSUA Thursday night — led by sophomore Khi Wallace’s 28 points while Hayden Brittingham and Emareyon McDonald made key plays.   • The LHSAA Prep Classic resumes Friday with three kickoff games remaining. North DeSoto faces Iowa at noon, Sterlington plays Jena at 3:30 p.m., and Archbishop Shaw meets St. Charles Catholic at 7:00 p.m.  Shreveport Times
